The Gentleman's Ruse
New Cellars, Pembroke College
The play follows Abby, who desperately wants to see a nude painting of a woman, being kept in a men's only club. Her boyfriend, Beau, a member of the club, won't advocate for Abby to be let in. After arguing with her boyfriend, Abby and her friends decide to disguise themselves as men to enter the gentleman's club and see the painting. However seeing isn't enough so they decide to steal the painting. In a blackout, one of the girls manages to get the painting and hide it (not well) under her jacket. The police are called to investigate the paintings disappearance and everyone is told to stay put. The men become increasingly suspicious of the disguised women, and right on clue, the painting falls out of hiding. Right when they're about to be arrested Beau's grandmother, who, it turns out, is the woman in the painting and owner of it, enters to resolve the conflict.
