Body Awareness is a warm, wry portrait of an idiosyncratic family. It’s Body Awareness Week at the university where Phyllis teaches psychology, and she and her partner Joyce are hosting one of the event’s guest artists in their home. Frank, a photographer famous for his nude portraits of women, complicates the dynamic between Phyllis, Joyce, and Jared, Joyce’s adult son, who may or may not have autism spectrum disorder. It’s a one-act play with a small cast of four (two men and two women). In Baker’s signature naturalistic style, each character is vividly imagined, and the play is funny without making caricatures out of them.
